[BEGINNING OF TRANSCRIPT] [Maria Ngo] If you’re wondering why your life is not going the way that you’d like or why you haven’t created that life of purpose that you’re meant to have, it’s because you haven’t spoken to Doug Vermeeren, The Personal Development Guru. How about that Doug?

[Doug Vermeeren] Yeah, eh. Thanks for having me Maria. It’s good to be with you guys today.

[Maria Ngo] Well, thank so much for being here on the red carpet. Now, when we talk about personal development, and I don’t mean to be disrespectful… Sometimes, people are probably watching the game as airy-fairy… Yeah, we’ve heard it. You know, about the personal development… First of all, tell me about what personal development means to you?

[Doug Vermeeren] Well, you know, it’s interesting because you’re right. A lot of people do have that idea that it’s airy-fairy or doesn’t make a difference or doesn’t change us. And there’s really two thoughts that I ran across a handful years ago that really helped me personally. Right now, I start with me because you know, we can’t really help others until we’ve got herself figured out. Right? A lifeguard can’t help others ’til they know how to swim. The first thought was out of all the things that you can take with you when you die; your soul or who you really are, or who you have been able to become is really the only thing. You can’t take your checkbook. You can’t take your wardrobe. You can’t take your car, but you can take what you’ve become. So it becomes really, really, really important to, to, to develop that as big as we can. The other thing is that I found is that, quite frankly, frankly you can never ever… you can’t ever earn more than you learn. So what you know, actually really set you up for what you can do. If you don’t know it, you can’t do it. And more importantly than that, if you don’t believe it you can’t do it. And so, I think personal development really starts with developing that confidence, that inner pro-activity. If you will in that ability, be responsible for our greatest self.

[Maria Ngo] So, let’s make a big sales pitch to anybody out there for, you know… for personal power mastery. Is that correct?

[Doug Vermeeren] True.

[Maria Ngo] For anybody out there who’s really struggling to, to have that life that they have always desired.

[Doug Vermeeren] Well, the thing that I think is amazing that I’ve discovered in my life and through interacting with my students is we’re really only one decision from a brand-new life. So, no matter what your outcomes are currently, weather, maybe you want more buttons in your life or better relationships in your family or maybe to improve your health or maybe it’s even a self-esteem or self-worth or self-confidence issue or maybe even it’s a spirituality thing. Anything can change for the better. And like I said, it’s only one decision away, one decision away from a brand-new life.

[Maria Ngo] If you could talk to that one person out there who’s, who’s what needing that extra push, what are you gonna say to them?

[Doug Vermeeren] Well, I think that the first thing to remember is that, it really is within your hands. Right? Everything is within your hands to change. And this is it is that most people settle for the life that they’ve got. Right? We went to school. That’s what they told us we should be. Our parents said this is who we are. Our communities, maybe even our religious groups have told us, these are your limitations and don’t expect for anything more. And a lot of people buy into that idea and they settle for that. And the truth of the matter is, it’s not true. You can be anything that you want to be. There are really no limits to who you can become. And most of us make our decisions again either based on habit, because that’s what we’ve been told or based on crisis. In other words, people knocking on our doors saying, “Can you do this for me? Can you do that? or you need to do this. You have to do that or here’s an emergency. And so we, we really don’t preemptively make here decisions. We don’t decide ahead of time, what our end or our destination should look like? And it’s always my thought that a goal that specific and clear, becomes attainable and near.

[Maria Ngo] Well, Doug you are a successful entrepreneur… You’re an author. You’re a film producer. You produced three films. Tell me about those films.

[Doug Vermeeren] Well, the first from what we did was “The Opus”. Most people consider it the sequel to “The Secret”. We have most of the cast come back from “The Secret” for that. And random house picked it up and did 23 languages worldwide. So it was really fun. And I guess, the essence of that film is how do you take a vision of what you want and turn it ultimately into a workable plan and performance in your life. And we’re honored. We’ve got some really great people like Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, Joe Vitale, Marci Shimoff, Morris Goodman, Bob Doyle, John Demartini… Just, a lot of amazing people were on that film. And we have a fun time making it. It was great! It’s really good.

[Maria Ngo] Any other film?

[Doug Vermeeren] The second film we did was “The Gratitude Experiment”. In fact, one of the things I’m known for is, I went out and I interviewed four hundred of the world’s top achievers. And what I found very interesting about what they had to say vs. many of the success books that are out there is that, they all attributed the principle of gratitude as being something that got them to their success. And very few of the success books talked about that. So I brought in folks like Bob Proctor, John Gray did “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus,” Marie Diamond from “The Secret”, Mary Morrissey, John Demartini back and several other great speakers that talked about how gratitude can really elevate anything it touches. Anything in your life gratitude makes better. Right? And the third movie that we did was called, “The Treasure Map.” And really that focused on the mindset of abundance. One of the things that a lot of people asked me about, because I’ve written several books on wealth. In fact, we’re right now doing the dummies book, “Self-made Millionaires for Dummies.” But they’re always asking me about wealth and finance. So, we build a book how to… or a movie called “The Treasure Map” and in that one, I brought in again John Demartini back. He’s unlike three for three movies with me. He’s awesome. Raymond Aaron who also many of you familiar with who did the branding for dummies book; Marshall Sylver who’s one of the top hypnotist in the world; Loral Langemeier from “The Secret” who most known as the “millionaire maker.” Who else do we have? We have Stefan Aarnio and Darren Jacklin. I mean we had a great cast! But they all focus on this conversation around money. How do we make more money? And so obviously people are interested in that.

[Maria Ngo] Okay, I am so excited to know you…

[Doug Vermeeren] We have a fun time. Don’t worry.

[Maria Ngo] Yeah, right, right. This is so great! Yeah. So, if people want to get more information about your events for what you’re currently doing, where should they go?

[Doug Vermeeren] Well, there’s two main websites: one, my personal website has all kinds of information and free support, free helps, free tools, free tips and that’s douglasvermeeren.com and I’m assuming you’re going to write it somewhere along the bottom here, whatever…

[Maria Ngo] I promise.

[Doug Vermeeren] www.douglasvermeeren.com. And or rather is of course with the Personal Power Mastery events which we conduct all around the world. We’ve now just started doing them in the UK and Australia. And we’ll be doing them in South Africa later this year as well. But you can go to http://personalpowermasteryevent.com and you can see our schedule and come out and visit one of our intro sessions and get a chance to find out what we’re doing.

[Maria Ngo] Well, I feel so honored and privileged having you here. I know that you are extremely busy and thank you for doing everything that you’re doing. And we so appreciate you being here today.

[Doug Vermeeren] It’s awesome to be with you two. You guys are awesome.
